What schedule would you choose to work after having a baby?

My husband and I are trying to figure a way I can be a SAHM with our first baby. I need to figure out a work schedule in case I have to work 32 hours a week. My mom has a daycare so my baby would be with her if I worked. What schedule would be best when I have a newborn baby: Monday-Friday: 9:30am to 4pm Tuesday-Friday: 8am to 4pm (Have Mondays off) Monday-Friday: 10:00 to 4:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8am to 4pm (Have Wednesdays off) Any ideas? If I work I have to work 32 hours to keep our medical insurance and I CAN'T work from home.

  1. tues-friday 8-4
  2. That's a really personal situation. It's going to depend on you, your husband, your mother, your child and your work's scheduling issues. Better yet, why don't you try each out for a couple weeks and see what happens.
  3. if it were me, i'd take the schedule with wednesdays off. that way you can have a break in the middle of the work week to spend with the baby.
  4. Having been a 32 hour'er, the 4 days is better. Also like the Wednesday off option. This is why. To get ready to go to work 5 days a week, for less time, you have to take into account the getting ready and travel time. As for the Wed, that breaks it up nice. While a 3 day weekend would be nice, I think you'll get antsy to see your baby more if you work 4 days straight.
  5. T-F; 8-4. 3 day weekends. If you're already at work, why not work an extra hour or two. One, you won't have to get ready for work on as many days and two, you'll have more time with your baby and to run errands, get things done around the house, etc.
  6. Mornings r gonna be tough for the first few months with your baby, with middle of the night feedings, i'd personally go for the mon-fri 10:00 to 4:30pm.
  7. No. 2 Tuesday-Friday 8am-4pm - this way U'll always have a long weekend Good Luck N Congrats on Ur New Addition!
  8. LOL 32 hours is 32 hours...i dont think a baby can tell the difference between 9:30 AM and 10:00AM! Be happy you dont have to pull 8 - 5:30 like the rest of us!
  9. I hear this so many times. People keep their job just for insurance and don't realize how much they are actually paying for insurance. The other thing is the older you get the harder it will be for you to get insurance on your own just giving you something to think about so you make the best choices for you and your family.
