The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

These are apparently the rights that each US citizen is entitled to. Can you explain what the right to life entails? is it really self explanatory? Do I have the right to medical treatment to keep me alive? What about if i can't afford it?

Public Comments

  1. The right not to be killed out of hand by your government
  2. It means you can't go around murdering people, although I am pro-choice as I believe an embryo is not a human being.
  3. .....It's self explanatory.. You have the right to your life. Meaning.. You cannot be deprived of your life by another person (meaning killed) without due process.
  4. the gov can't execute you without DUE PROCESS i.e. a trial.
  5. It means that you have the right to live. To not be killed by another person.
  6. It's a game by Milton Bradley. You're free to go into any department store and purchase it.
  7. Great follow-up question but I'm one step ahead of you (see my response on one of your two previous questions). P.S. Okay... fine... I'll elaborate (now that I've read the other responses). See what I mean? They're not really rights! Americans think you should be able to do whatever you want, ruin the earth for everybody else, take whatever you want, contribute nothing, accept no responsibility for your actions... and this one great 'right' you have, is that no one is allowed to kill you... or in other words... NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO DEFEND THEMSELVES from greedy aggressive parasites. Welcome to the US of A, now get out there and cause as much damage as you can. Good luck and happy hunting.
  8. The right to life apparently doesn't extend to people that get trampled to death in Walmart. Nobody from the mob of bargain hunters was ever arrested. I'm sure they demanded an apology from Walmart for their employee bleeding on their shoes though.
  9. It means your very existence is valued and protected. Unless you're an unborn human child. Then it's perfectly acceptable for a monster with a scalpel and deadly chemicals to slaughter you unmercifully inside your mothers womb or, if born alive, allow you to die an unimaginably horrible death while left alone in a broom closet.
  10. It doesn't seem to mean a great deal in practice: 'In the U.S. alone, it is estimated that 10,000 deaths occur each year due to routine industrial accidents; another 100,000 deaths occur due to occupational disease; and 30,000 deaths and 20,000,000 serious injuries due to unsafe consumer products.'
