How do I make my battery life visible in the right-hand corner of my screen?

I just installed an update on vista and for some reason the battery life no longer is shown in the right hand corner. When I go to properties, only the clock is able to be selected -- the other things like battery life, volume, and network are gray and cannot be selected. This is horrible because I never know when my battery is dead/alive! Please help.

1. It's easy..Just click Properties on the taskbar and when the windows pops up u click customize..then when the icons window pops up click the power icon and switch to turn off icons and notifications....or just right click on the power icon and then select TURN power icons off or on..
